Re: S2600CW2 board and LAN port failure

Hello!

Actually motherboard and RMM module are changed to a new one, but problem still appears.

We reflashed firmware and it didn't help. Customer has 2 identical servers, which work fine.

We had an opportunity to assemble and test the same configuration, and it also worked fine.

So I can see no point to change there anything from hardware part.

So i am running out of ideas.

Sergei

Hi there th3godf4th3r,

I am glad to hear you were able to resolve the issue with the system. Yes, the board requires a specific firmware level to fully support your V2 processor capabilities. You always need to use CPU Socket 1 first to boot up the system.

Depending on the BIOS version your system is running with you might need to install a mid-level version first. For this, I would recommend reviewing the Release Notes for the firmware package. This will tell you the pre-requisites for the install.

Again, I am glad to hear you were able to sort this one out. Feel free to reach out our support team if you need anything else.

Best regards,
David A.

Hi jintel33,

Compatible 1U Server boards with Intel® Optane™ SSD DC P4800X.

The Intel® Optane™ SSD DC P4800X drives were tested with Intel® dual socket Server motherboards only. In the case of the Intel® Optane™ SSD 900P was intended for desktop motherboards only, Intel engineers did not test with server boards.

Dual socket motherboards exceed 16GB of RAM and you can get processors with a similar speed. Bear in mind Intel® Xeon processors are intended for multitasking; i7 processors are better for gaming purposes.

I suggest you use our website: ark.intel.com to get the compatible motherboards and Intel® systems. Type the model of the SSD in the Search Specifications white box on the upper right corner, the new window shows the specifications of the SSD. Chose the Compatible Products blue option on the left side menu.

The Intel® server motherboard or server system provides with the compatible processors. The processors give memory requirements.

As an example, I am sending you the specifications of the Intel® Optane™ SSD DC P4800X, 750GB, 1/2 Height PCIe x4, 20nm, 3D XPoint.

I hope my answer helps you to build your server system.

Regards,
Miguel C

Any news on this issue ?

We've just deployed another 2 of this model server and they both have the same problem of the PSU fans intermittantly spinning up very loud!!

Please advise the best course of action as its several servers now that have the same problem!

thanks

Rob.

Re: Switch Module AXXSW1GB on Intel Modular Server MFSYS35 bootloop

Dear Kenneth R.,

Thank you for your reply.

Is it possible to do firmware update via chassis on the switch while it is boot loop and the switch status is unmanageable in the management module ?

Or Do I have to do firmware update on the switch itself ? But I don't know how to extract switch firmware from chasiis firmware and I don't know how to do the firmware update on the switch, because there is no manual explaining to do firmware update on the switch (I search on the google, It may related with XMODEM),

FYI my customer chassis is MFSYS35 and my backup unit chassis in my office is MFSYS25V1.

I put customer's switch module in my chassis and the problem is the same.

my MFSYS25V1 firmware have the latest version, 6.10, but the chassis can not update the switch firmware.

best regards

Hi Sergei,

I am aware of the previous change, and trying to focus on the issue at hand, if the hardware was replaced, the firmware is up to date, the OS is not involved and there are identical set ups in the same environment the only logic option available is the network, I can't really see something else based on the information we have so far. As I mentioned the gaps are normal after rebooting as long as they don't exceed 2 minutes at least for the BMC. I would recommend to go back to basics and perform these tests in a point to point network and compare to discard that option then move up trough the network as it seems nothing is wrong in the hardware.

Hello Frank,

Any news on your attempts to install Windows Server 2008 on the S5400SF board?  Did you try the suggestion I made on my last post?  We wish we could make deeper suggestions but it is a little challenging since we no longer have that board model to run tests.

Hi Ashar, thanks.

I'll make some research but as I mentioned there is not that much documentation for these devices as they haven't been around for a while and no group offers support for them, anyway, I'll dig into it to see what I can find and will be back to you shortly.

Hello diama13,

Thank you for your quick response.

Based on the information provided, have you consulted this issue with SuperMicro? Since the interleaving feature is part of the motherboard BIOS? It could be that the board does not support 128 GB and they disabled that feature for the same.

Please let me know your results.

Hello Jeremiah,

Supermicro provided us with a BIOS version with channel interleaving set to 1 way. Our motherboard can support up to 1 TB  memory. As it seems the interleaving exists between the two Home Agents (memory controllers). Which unit is responsible for this interleaving?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Ashar,

After reviewing the information available on this device I see there is no apparent way to unpack the file to perform individual updates, based on that the recommendation I can come up with is to replace the device as no applicable troubleshoot for this issue could be found.

I hope this helps to confirm the following steps and I will very much appreciate your feedback either if there is something else we could for you or in the other hand if this answers your question and the trend can be set as closed.

In any case I'll stay tuned to your comments.

Regards,

Ken

Hello Franklin,
Yes, I downloaded and run "memtestx86" as a boot image.
The test ran for 5 days. Memtest has not found any errors.
I have read in the monthly specification updates (July 2013) Erratum 50 of the server platform S5520UR that it comes under the BIOS revision 63, to crash the installation of WinSrv2008R2 on GPT disks.
Users are advised to perform a BIOS downgrade to version 61 or older.
That would be my next step now.
Meanwhile, I have installed WinSrv2008R2 in legacy mode on my S5520HC platform. I need a working server (urgent) . But also on this platform I would like to install WinSrv2008R2 in EFI mode for security reasons.
Now I can "play" with the S5520UR platform.

Best regards ,
Frank.

Hello Jeremiah ,

before contacting with Supermicro in order to provide us with a new BIOS with this option enabled(channel interleaving set to two way) could you explain me the reason for setting this option?

Thanks,

Very helpful, thanks Miguel.  One follow up question for you.  Under the FAQ for using the 900p as a boot drive it states the following:

The requirements for using the Intel® Optane™ SSD 900P Series as a boot drive are:

  • PCIe* NVMe* storage-capable hardware motherboard support. Consult your system or motherboard vendor for more informa
    • Add-in card (AiC) form factor: PCIe 3.0 x4 connector (best performance)
    • 2.5 inch form factor:
      • U.2 Cable for connection to the SSD
      • PCIe-capable SFF-8643 connector or a PCIe-capable M.2 connector

That seems to suggest that the AIC set up will deliver better drive performance that the 2.5inch.  Is that correct?  If so, does the same hold true for the p4800x?

Hi jintel33,

The Intel® Optane™ SSD DC P4800X 2.5” Series have interface PCIe x 4 with form factor U.2; it means the performance of both models is the same.

The link attached compares the specs of the NVMe drives with both form factors.
Compare Intel® Products
